An extraordinarily gifted computational chemist is sought to join NatSynDrugs, at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Applied Chemistry (University of Siena), for projects aimed at discovering pre-clinical candidates for the treatment of CNS disorders and neglected diseases. The appointment will be up to 3 years.

The research project will be focussed on the application of specific computational methodologies for ligand-based and/or structure-based drug design.
This position will emphasize application of computational methodologies for the discovery of pharmacologically active compounds with desired physical or chemical properties (such as stability, electronic structure, synthetic availability etc) to enable identification of pre-clinical candidates.
The research project is to study protein-ligand interactions using computational methods including protein modeling, docking, molecular dynamics, and ab initio methods.

Candidates should have world-class credentials in computational chemistry, a computational PhD in the field of medicinal chemistry, chemistry, biology, biophysics or related fields and an outstanding publication record.

Relevant areas of experience might include protein structure prediction, the computation of protein-ligand binding affinities, the study of biologically important systems using molecular dynamics and related techniques and to investigate protein-protein interactions.
In summary, they should have prior experience in simulations of biomolecules and practical knowledge of and experience using current simulation techniques, including ab initio molecular methods -but specific knowledge of any of these areas is less critical than exceptional intellectual ability and a demonstrated track record of achievement.
This position will involve extensive interactions with medicinal and organic chemists, pharmacologists, crystallographers in multiple fields and efficiently working within multiple projects.

The ideal candidate must be able to collaborate in a highly interdisciplinary field with individuals with different academic backgrounds and must have good communication skills.
